The Garden Route, Part 2

The drive through the Garden Route continues!!!  In the cold, cold rain.

Last night we realized we were REALLY far from our planned destination, so instead drove in to Swellendam.  Melanie was the driver and got the worst luck!  Rain and fog on a dark highway after sunset.  Once we got in to town, we checked in to an awesome B&B (no pictures unfortch - they're all on Mel's camera) and went to the innkeeper's recommended restaurant.  Awesome place in a 1700s farm house with "a great view" that we couldn't see in the dark. :)  The next day though, on our way out of town, we drove by the place and saw clouds lifting from beautiful mountains!  Swellendam really looks more like a little German town in the Alps, no?

After Swellendam, we hopped back on the highway and headed to Hermanus (AKA Hermosa) before our final approach to Capetown.  Hermanus is famous for its whale watching.  In fact, it is considered the best place in the WORLD to whale watch from land.  And sure enough, through the freezing wind, we DID see some whales coming up for air!  Flippers, heads, and tails.  It was totally cool!

we NEEDED the hot drinks - it was freezing and windy!
